How do you make hip-hop beats and what equipment do you need?

I would like to make hip-hop beats and I have some good ideas. I know I nead like a keyboard or a mpc or something but I’m not exactly sure. What do I need and how do they fit. (I have an apple computer and a PC) Thanks

Well apple has a program call garage band…I use an MPC 1000 and a technic 1200 turntable…With an MPC you can find records and chop your own sounds…or you can buy sounds online at Kicks n Snares, Sounds 4 Samples, etc and work from there. The Mpc can also be link with computer programs like Reasons, Fruity Loops, Cubase, Protools, etc Plus these programs can make beats with out a drum machine…Keyboards that you can use also are M-Audio workstations(they work well with computer programs) Korg Triton workstations, and the Roland Fantom are nice workstation.
You can get a small 4 or 8 track recorder but most computer programs come with virtual boards on them.

But if you are on a budget…Since you already have an Apple computer you can midi link a M-Audio keyboard to your computer and work with any or most software. M-Audio also comes with its own software for you to get started.
